Towns
It is often diffucult to remember where one can find a particular item that is urgently needed or who in the area gives the best prices for loot. Here is an summary. Details can be found on the pages for the individual towns.
After clearing out a dungeon you usually want to get your reward if you have just completed a quest. You then want to sell your loot to the highest bidder. The price you get when selling depends on your negotiating skill. As far as I have been able to ascertain all shopkeepers who are willing to buy items, offer the same price, which starts out at 20%(!!!) of the face value. After training up as much as possible in negotiating I managed to get 28%. There seems no better price to be had.
You do not need to vistit a trainer to turn skill points into actual skills. This can be done as soon as you move up a level. Most of the training establishments from Avernum 1 are still around. The trainers will now instuct you in various skills at a price.
Trainer | Skills | Rating |
Starcap, Almaria | Mêlée Weapons, Pole Weapons | expensive |

Spells are important in these games but I always forget where they can be bought or otherwise obtained. Here are lists of places where spells can be obtained and lists of the individual spells with sellers (or other method of finding them) for levels 1 and 2 and also notes about finding them at level 3. Since money is so short in this game, I have also given the price each seller demands for each spell.
Another problem with the Spells, is that there are various versions of this game each with differnt spells. I have listed the names and descriptions for the alternative version (Avernum Remix Version 1.1). If the spell works differently in the original version of the game, the original description appears in a slightly darker box at the end of the entry..
Carol, Fort Duvno | Priest 1,2 and 4 | pretty average |
Toddric, Fort Dranlon | Priest 1 – 7 | very reasonable |
Miles, Formello | Mage 1 – 8 | slightly expensive |

Stagnant Caverns | Mage and Priest spells 1 – 6 L2 | free |
Erika, Erika's Tower | Mage and Priest Spells 15 – 20 | slightly expensive |
Evysss, Freehold of Kyass The price she demands depends on the number of quests you have completed. The price I quote in the list of spells is the one you get after doing all quests. |
Mage and Priest 9 – 13 (after doing one quest) | exorbitant |
Mage and Priest 15 – 17 (after some more quests) | slightly expensive | |
