Ancient Crypt

Gooley and Yong-Mi are camping in the entrance to this cave but they cannot find out how to get in. In spite of the fact that they have been trying for ages, you can just walk up to the door and it unlocks itself of its own accord! Once you get in, the doors lock themselves behind you and you have to solve a puzzle to be able to get out again.

This cave is full of a variety of undead. There are some rather nasty creatures (a Flickering Sentinel and lots of Zombies) on the podium in the centre of the cave and if you attack them directly, others come up from the sides to reinforce them. For this reason I prefer to circle around the the cave thus removing potential hostile allies piecemeal.

It is probably better to start by going west. This way you can prepare the escape route and find some nice treasure. There are lots of Zombies and Skeletons in this area. In the cavern to the SW are four corpses with some passable loot including a few coins. The middle room apparently contains nothing. In the NW corner is the treasure trove.

In the SE corner are a few skeletons. In the room behind them are 3 corpses which yield a few items and some coins. On a podium in the room in the middle of the east wall are a Darkling Wight and 4 Zombies. They are a bit difficult and are guarding nothing except a few skulls. In the NE corner are a Shade and 3 Ghouls blocking the way into the doors in the NE. In the room behind these doors are a Wight and three Ghouls. When you have disposed of them you can search the three bodies and find some useful loot.

The sarcophagus in the middle of the dungeon is very disappointing – it contains nothing at all.

If you go through the door at the northen end of the central path you will meet the lord of this crypt Thexa Blooddrinker supported by four Ghouls. The ghouls are a bit tricky but the lich is really tough. He drops a Phylactery of Envy (a useful and valuable charm). There is a Golden Goblet near the throne and in one of the Sarcophagi is a Gold Necklace.

• In the middle room to the west is a button on the west wall which opens up a path to a pool.
• In th NW corner of the cave is a button on the north wall which opens up a path across the lava to a chamber containing two cabinets. One holds 3 Emeralds and a Terror Wand, the other 89 coins.
• In the Chamber of the Lich in the north is a button on the northern wall, which opens a hidden door to a chamber to the west. Here is a tome which will teach Heal L3 if you have enough Arcane Lore (8) to be able to understand it.

Now you have everything you can leave. But the door is locked and you cannot work out how to open it. Back to the hidden pool in the west. If you drink from it and hurry back before the effects of the water wear off, you can open the door.

When you have got out you can talk to Gooley and Yong-Mi, who are really upset because they have been waiting for ages to get in and you tell them that you have already got in and cleared it out. You do however get about 50 xp when they leave.
