Outside this Cave you meet a band of Avernum soldiers who are waiting to ambush a group of bandits. If you agree to help them you get into a fight with two mages and a lot of warriors. Like most hostile groups in this game, they drop very little loot.
Soon as you get into the cave you come across four soldiers and a Sharpshooter, but since you hear them before you can see them, you can prepare yourself.
There are naturally lots of bandits around. Up a staircase to the north are two Cultists (annoying), Raider Thyron (rather tough) and the Bandit Chief Alera (strong) together with a Rogue Enchanter (very annoying) and a few bandits. They drop some useful loot.
In the SE of the dungeon is a door to the dining hall with a few sharpshooters and rogues who drop some useful items.
To the north of the lake in the NW corner of the cave is the door to the Tome Chamber where the three tomes are guarded by four rats (2 pestulant and 2 experimental) and two Popping Slimes. After finishing off these monsters you can look at the tomes. The left one teaches you Cone of Cold (Icy Rain) L3, the middle one has been ruined by damp and is unreadable but the right one tells you that Meena has been giving the bandits instructions. This is important information and is exactly what mayor de Bry in Dharmon wanted you to find out.
I am not quite sure whether there is anything that can be done to make the middle tome readable. In the Spiderweb forum somebody suggested borrowing a hairdryer from Linda. That is a great idea and if she does not have one, perhaps you could use a blowlamp to dry it out. But be careful not to set the place alight!
In the SW is the barracks with a few soldiers. North of the barracks is a small cavern.
Now back to Bohman in Fort Spire for a good reward and to de Bry in Dharmon, who is too mean to give you anything. You just put this down to experience (points).
