General Hints

The easiest way into the castle is to approach from the west, follow the wall south and then east along the lakeside. Now you must find a secret passage leading to a portcullis which the onyx key will open. (There are two Onyx keys, one in the Swamp City and the other in the Slith Fort.)

The alternative is to enter to the south towrds what looks like a landing stage as you approach from the lake. You end up however on the lakeside path to the SW of the castle.

Notes

When you get into the castle from the south you have a choice. You can clear out the level or just go straight for Sss-Thsss. I prefer to eliminate all resistance and thereby get more experience not to mention some nice loot. I will however describe the quick way first.

The Quick Way to Sss-Thsss

After getting through the gate in the south try to head north and then east to the middle of the castle where you will find another portcullis to the south. It is better to take this route in combat mode. In this way you can often avoid the resistance and will not so often be forced to make detours. In any case be careful to avoid going near the main gate in the north or the temple in the southeast. When you reach the portcullis you can open it with the onyx key and go upstairs.

At the top of the stairs you meet a slith chieftain, a mage, a shaman and a warrior – rather tough foes. Then head to the NW. You will meet lots of mages, shamans and prists on the way. (There are two buttons which open up a short cut.) After dealing with the ressitance in the libraries in the NW you can proceed east to the antechamber in front of Sss-Thsss's throneroom.

Clearing the Ground Floor

Alternatively you can continue east and come to an altar and a Slith Cultist. When you engage them lots of reinforcement lead by Shaman Sss-Kelia join in. Behind the altar is a small room where some bodies are lying.

The Main Gate

If you go further north you get warne that you could get involved in a great battle. If you persist and go further you come to the entry cavern by the main gate which is guarded by a large troop of sliths lead by Scourger Vhlasss. Depending on your level they should not be impossible. Vhlasss drops a Warrior's Cloak (value 2000 and rather good advantages without any penalties) and a Scroll – Return Life. To the east of the gate is a Trophy room where you get the message "The boxes in this chamber bulge with the loot stolen from dozens of raided human and nephilim settlements."

This wonderful loot consists of a few coins on the ground, a Flawless Crystal hidden in a pile of skulls and various cloaks, tunics, scales, plates etc. in the two chests!

Basilisks

If you go outside you will find a passage to the NE corner wich leads to four basilisks, four Lovely Crystals and a Wisdom Crystal. In the original game you got catapulted down here if you were not careful when crossing the bridge to the treasure chamber. In this game you just get killed if you do not have sufficient tool use to pass the trap.

Upstairs

Upstairs you can go west and fight your way through to Sss-Thsss or first clear out the area to the east. Round the corner directly north of the staircase is a temple with entrances from the east and the west. Cultist Yssra officiates in the temple along with two shamans, two sliths and two mutant lizards. After killing the enemies you can pick up some reasonable items including some Radiant Boots. To the east of the altar is a secret passage blocked by a barrier (L1) and leading to a Memorial Hall which does not seem to contain anything. There is however a secret door to the inner shrine where you can find some incense and scrolls. To the west and then north you come to some libraries on the way meeting lots of sliths including many priests, mages and shamans.

Sss-Thsss

To the east of the libraries is an antechamber to the Throne Room where you can read a tome which you cannot understand. The gate is open and all is suspiciously quiet! If you approach the throne the southern gate closes behind you and some slithzerikai troops stream in from the east. After you have disposed of them various spell casters appear to the west. Later on the slith lord himself appears before his throne. When you have weakened him somewhat three Throne Defenders come to his aid. When you are warned that he is about to make a mighty blow, move your characters away from him. After the portcullis to the west opens you have access to three basins. The one to the NE does nothing, the southern one poisons you but the basin in the NW gives you battle frenzy.

After killing him you need to escape but first pick up the dropped loot, which is not very much except for a Ssara-tai Warspear which Sss-Thsss drops. To the west is a portcullis which cannot be opened. To the east is a portcullis which can be opened by a wheel in the SE corner. Following the passage you come to a bridge, where a trap (L10) blocks the path to the treasure chamber where you can find three chests. The northern one contains some coins and two emeralds. The two to the south are protected by barriers: the eastern one (L2) contains a Wisdon Crystal and a Steel Breastplate; in the west (L3) a Rod of Succor and an Invulnerability Elixir.

There are lots of buttons and secret passages here, most of them leading east to the bridge and the treasure chamber. One however leads west to Sss-Thsss's private chamber which is protected by Li'l Burny, his pet Frozen Worm. Here you can find a bit of loot an a tome which teaches Flamestrike L3.

The Throne Room

There are lots of buttons and passages in and around the Throne Room. Most of them seem to be superfluous.
