Quantum Computing (SoSe 20)
Notifications
- The Thursday exercise group will take place from 12:30 (s.t.) to 14:00.
- The Friday exercise group will take place from 15:15 (s.t.) to 16:45.
General information:
Prerequisites:
- Linear Algebra I
- Quantum Mechanics I
Contents:
The lecture focuses on practical applications of digital quantum computing. We will discuss the theoretical foundation and practical algorithms.
We will develop a simulator of a digital quantum computer as a Python library and use it to illustrate the learned concepts.
We will eventually also run quantum circuits on existing hardware
such as the IBM few-qubit machines. Practical limitations of current and future hardware
will be discussed.
Exercises:
- There will be two exercise groups, Thu 13:00 - 15:00 and Fri 12:30 - 14:30. The groups will be lead by A. Hackl and C. Lehner. The exercise groups will take place as an online meeting with more details announced here soon.
- Exercise groups in week of April 27 will be held
and give an introduction to the digital quantum computer simulator used to illustrate concepts of the lecture.
- Problem sets will be discussed in the exercise groups. Attendance is taken at the beginning of each exercise and one person randomly selected to present each problem and solution. If that person is unprepared, a mark is given. Absence of the exercise group is also marked. With zero or one mark, the course is passed. With two marks, an oral exam is needed to pass. Three or more marks equal failure of class.
