Cave of Pyrog |
Pyrog is an arogant piece of work. When you enter the cave, the giant guards are friendly (or rather not hostile). In the north behind the dragon is a locked gate, which can be opened only by the key hanging around her neck. As there seems to be no other key, you have to fight her.
Make preparations for a hard fight before talking to Pyrog. Then challenge her. At first she fights you alone, so that any blessings, hastings etc. which you cast also benifit the giants in the neighbourhood that have not yet joined in. As she recieves more dammage, she calls the giants to her aid. I find Lightning Spray the most effective spell against them. Firblast does not affect Pyrog, costs a lot more and does not do much more damage to giants.
When you kill Pyrog you get a Wrought Iron Key. The giants do not drop anything not even Pyrog. On the landing leading up to Pyrog are two empty chests, a few coins and some other items. In the caves to the west are some giants guarding a "larder". The giants do not drop anything and the frozen bodies have already been stripped. To the east are some further caves where a group of giants is waiting. There are a few passable items in the chests or simply lying around.
Behind the door to the north which you can now unlock with Pyrog's key, is the Bone Room in which there is a Gold Goblet and a bottle of Almarian wine among the skulls and bones. But nothing else! Now you have to find the Hidden passages.
In the NE and NW corners of the Bone Room are hidden passages both leading round to a chamber in the north where a Fiery Wardbeast, a Leathery Wardbeast and a Mung Demon are waiting for you. They drop a few coins and there are a few items like Farlander boots lying around or in the chests. Behind the barriers to the west is a book on a pedestal which you can take. (This is what Rita in the Patrick's Tower, Evyss in the Freehold of Kyass and Thantria in Formello want.)
But you still have not found the Brooch you were after.
If you take the secret passage in the middle the east wall of the eastern passage, you come to a complex guarded by magical barriers. The way to the north is not blocked until you meet up with a Bound Haakai and a Fiery Demon. After dealing with them you can enter the middle of this area from the east and find the Chalcedony Brooch in the blue chest. If you have Dispel Barriers L3 and want to avoid the fight with the haakai you could remove the barriers and go straight to the centre of the cross.
