This is a rather complicated town. There are lots of intrigues and skulduggery going on here.

I like to walk around the outside of any new town before entering it. In this way I can see the boundaries on the automap and there are often coins or useful items lying around outside the walls. In this case you need to be a bit careful. Along the east wall north of the gate is a Shambler. Actually there is nothing at all outside the walls, but enough surprises within.
Leith tells you to look in his rooms and the statue says that all papers should be burnt. In Leith's home there is a rather hard trap (Level 16). His notes just tell you that charred paper can be read. There is nothing in Eddy and Patsy's rooms nor in Mondrain's home. So now to Bruce's rooms. In his oven is half a sheet of charred paper. Leith tells you to take it to Saffron, who makes the snippet of text legible.
It just remains to go to Vicky with your evidence who is so pleased that she gives you 25 xp and 4 rep.
If you talk to Bartholomew and someone has told you that he might know where Thompson has got to, he will tell you that he left a message behind the dresser in his room. If you look at the dresser now, you will find the message, which tells you that you need the runned key from the Blasted Ruins and that you should ask Friatus in Fort Remote how to get to him.
There is an inn run by Patsy. Rooms are to be had for 5 or 15 coins.
