General Hints

This little town on the river between the main part and eastern part of the Great Cave has a lot to offer. There is a good variety of shops; you can get a few quests and find an Empire hideout. Although there are some docks here you cannot reach the town by boat. The guards on the east gate will demand a toll of 5 coins for passing over the bridge, but they waive the charge if you have a high enough reputation.

Notes

Before entering a town I like to go around the outside of the walls to see if there is anything of interest there. In Almaria this is not possible. You can move around outside the west wall but you leave the town if you try to get to the south. The east wall is directly on the river front and as there are no secret doors or weak walls that can be destroyed and since boats cannot for some reason be manoeuvred here, the outside of the east wall is also inaccessible.

The way round from the west side to the north of the town is also blocked in the NW corner. In order get outside the wall on the north side you have to go along the gangway in the defences to the north. There is a weak place in the wall which can be broken down with Move Mountains. Towards the NW corner is a corpse with some Boots, a Bronze Greatsword and Iron Plate Mail. Further along are two ledges which are accessible through hidden doors. Here you can pick up som herbs.

Hidden Items

As alway it is a good idea to explore everywhere and to talk to everybody. There are some small private dwellings in the middle of the town. The one in the SE has a simple trap (level 5) just behind the front door and a chest containing 86 coins in the bedroom.

There is a long passage leading to a dead end in the SE and a large area to the north of it and SW of the inn, which you cannot get into. In the southwestern gangway between the guardroom in the SW corner and the back entrance to Rosmary's shop is a weak wall that can be broken down with MM. In this secret storeroom are two crates with nothing more interesting than Iron Bolts and Steel Arrows!

The Inn

In the locked room in the SE of the guestrooms in the inn is a chest of drawers containing a scroll which can be read. It teaches Healing L3.

The Treasure Trove

Behind Bevan's Reception room is a small office with nothing at all in it. From there you can go north through various traps that cannot be disarmed and lots of warnings into the treasure room where you face two Golems. The Treasure Chest holds 600 coins. If your reputatation is high enough you loose 4 rep. Otherwise you make the town hostile. Is it really worth it for 600 coins?

Military Area

The area in the north is reserved for military purposes. Soldier-clearance (which you have from the start of the game) is needed to get in there. The first door from the west in the long corridor leads to the gangway around the defences. The second to the Monster Pens, where you can pit yourselvs against an Ur-Basilisk or four Ice Puddings.

The Ambush

The next two doors lead into a storage area. If you look around this room you will discover that a number of Empire soldiers are hiding behind the crates. As soon as you get far enough north they will spring out and attack you. The two guards in the room start fighting with you and all other troops in the area come rushing to your aid. Nevertheless the battle is not trivial.

Once it is over you can talk to Bevan about the incident. He will tell you that he suspects they had a hideout somewhere in the town. Now you can find it in the SE in the dead end where you could not get through before. The first room is empty but there is a Red Pass in the chest. The door to the next room is locked. This room appears empty until you step on the rune, when four demons appear. The next door is also locked, but behind it you can find some empire records on the shelves and an interesting note on the desk about their contact in Blosk. If you report all this to Bevan he will thank you, but nothing further. His main interest is in finding Sixus.

You can follow her pointer to the Tower of Sixus. When you have found him Bevan will reward you handsomely with 600 coins, 75 xp and 4 reputation.
