You need the Royal Seal from the Shattered Fort to be able to get through this tower and reach Hawthorne
Outside to the north are three Writhing Masses which I like to eliminate before entering the building. When you get inside everything is suspiciously quiet. There is a tome in a hidden room to the south which gives some warnings about traps for unauthorised visitors. To the north is a mural. When you get near it you will be asked if you want to insert the seal into an indentation. After you do this nothing happens – yet.
About 4 moves later your party members get split up – one into each of the magical circles. It is a good idea to use this short time to prepare your party for battle. For instance warriors can be given Battle Frenzy, a mage can cast Speed and a priest can bless everyone. Various imps and demons keep appearing to the north and south of the depression in the middle of the building so that it is difficult to reunite the party.
After you have killed various mosters of increasing difficulty the Haakai Vhalor appears in the middle of the room. He is rather tough but drops some “Acid-Etched Legs”. (I suppose that is a spelling mistake and leggings are meant. I cannot imagine how I coud use a monster's legs!)
After disposing of this last demon you can turn the wheel to the east and leave the Black Spire.
