General Hints

This hideout is well concealed. Look for the lone totems north of Cotra and then go directly west. Here you can kill the slith chief for Captain Johnson in Fort Duvno and recover the slith charm for Pathass in Gnass.

Notes

On entering you come straight into the forge where there are 2 sliths, 2 mages and 2 warriors which are not very difficult. To the west are some hatching ponds. If you go into this nursery you will be asked if you want to kill the baby sliths. Although it does not seem to harm your statistics, there is no advantage in murdering the children and I can never bring myself to do it.

The lower level

In the SW of the dungeon is a cave with lots of nasty sliths including an Archmage who keeps calling up demons and the Slith Chief. You need to kill him to get your reward from Capt. Johnson, but it is much more fun to clear out the whole dungeon. The archmage drops a Dexterity Bracelet and the others various valuable things.

After killing the chieftain I usually head back towards the entrance and then east. Along the north side of this level is a storage pen with some fire lizards and in the centre of the hideout is a small lake with an island in the middle.

The South and the Temple

SE of the fire lizards is a temple. The priests there do not drop anything particularly interesting. The corridor in the SW corner of the temple leads west to a secret passage also leading west. This passage is blocked by a rune which does not let you past.

If you continue SW you will come to a somewhat larger cave with a few sliths. To the north is the lake where you can see a boat at the end of a jetty which you cannot reach from here.

The Charm

In the SE of the Priest's Chambers (S of the temple) is a secret passage leading to three pools. NE of these pools is a grim cavern which is used as a trophy room containig a Ring of Discomfort and a pair of Cursed Boots. Reading the runes causes every member of the party to loose 2 pts Intelligence

If you bathe in the three pools (ugh!) you will be able to pass the rune in the secret passage to the west of the temple. Now you can find a boat a row across the lake to the island. If Pathass has taught you the incantation you can locate the charm in a pile of skulls near the base of the slith statue.

Upper Level

Just round the corner at the top of the stairs you will be greeted by a slith mage and various fighters, none of which is very difficult. To the north is a room with some fire lizards (annoying) and a Slith Archmage who is really tough. He is immune to most magic, keeps calling up demons and is difficult to kill. When you have managed to kill him (I once used Cloud of Blades) he sometimes drops a Mage's Bracelet.

Southeast of the Guardians Lair is a big room which is empty. To the SE of this room is a passage leading to a swampy area with a variety of snakes guarding some herbs. To the north is a ledge which is unreachable from here. Further south are two more swampy areas with lots of wryms amd asps. After killing them all you find a few herbs and a secret door to the west.

The Foul Pit

The way west is blocked by some stalagmites which can be destroyed with Move Mountains, leading to a "foul pit". There are no corpses and no treasure here but if you walk round to the other side you will be asked if you want to climb down. If you do so, you do not get very far before 4 wights climb up and attack you. The next time it is two spectres and then two vampires one of which drops a Radiant Robe. If you try to climb down again you have to give up because the stench is nauseating.

Hidden passages

In the NE corner of the dungeon is a storage room with some crates and barrels containing nothing very interesting. In the south wall however is a secret door leading to a ramp up to a storage room on the upper level. The crates and barrels here contain a few goodies: various rings (non magical) and a Mindcrystal (Resistance).
