Spider | Chief | Although you can talk to all the friendly spiders the most important one is the chief named Spider. He tells you that araneae have stolen some eggs and gives you the mission to recover them. For a reward you get 10 xp and Spider opens up a passage NE of his podest where there are some corpses you can search. You find a Ring of Skill, Fine Leather Armour, a Red Empire Pass and some mundane equipment. | Quest |
Spider | friendly | Most of the friendly spiders do not give you much infotmation. One however tells you that nasty araneae keep getting in and that there is a pool nearby that does good things to you if you touch the water. |
It is always a good idea to talk to everybody. The following notes give hints on hidden rooms, traps and puzzles.
Slightly to the west of the central area is a secret passage with a second entrance from the north. In the cave in the middle of this passage are two araneae which apparently came up a shaft in the floor. After killing the beasts you can block the shaft even though no one rewards you for doing this.
Directly east of the central area (N, E and then S) is a pool: If you touch the water you will be able to get through the sticky webs blocking the paths to the Aranea Web.
In the centre of the northern tract is a web screen which can be passed at one point. There are lots of giant spiders in the northeast of the caves. In the extreme northeast corner you find a kind of temple guarded by two giant spiders. After killing them you should make sure that the whole party is at full health and that your spell casters have a lot of spell energy left. If not it is better to leave, rest and come back later. On seaching this Weird Temple you find 200 coins but get diseased and loose health points. The best way to deal with this condition is to enter combat mode and coninually heal and cure affected party members until all are undiseased and at full health. On rounding a corner on the way out, four araneae will ambush you. They are tricky. Keep you spell casters out of sight because the araneae like to cast Slow. If your spell casters cannot be seen, you can hasten them so that they can continually heal, haste and even bless your warriors who should pummel the araneae.
