VIN SCELSA'S LIVE AT LUNCH SHOW # 47 Tuesday August 15, 2000 GP on LAL all afternoon! The multi-talented GRAHAM PARKER spent a delightful three hours with us today, reading from his newly published book of short fiction, "Carp Fishing On Valium" (St. Martin's Press) ... and debuting some brand new unrecorded songs which he's written to accompany the stories in the book. He sang six new songs for us today - one that's not related to the book - and at least one of them, called "Blue Horizon," that will break your heart. In between Graham's reading and singing ... and me playing some of his older recordings ... and the two of us shooting the breeze about garden gnomes and factory jobs ... I played some old sides from a couple of classic box sets ... the idea being that I was serving Graham a "boxed lunch" today of some of the music that first turned him on as a kid ... the two sets I used were "The OKeh Rhythm & Blues Story 1949-1957" (Epic/OK/Legacy) ... and the terrific 9-volume box, "The Complete Stax Volt Singles 1959-1968" (Atlantic).
