Tomb of Dahris-Bok |
You could sail past this cave but if you do so, Dahris-Bok will give you the Dread Curse four times. In any case paying your respects to him saves you doing one of the tests later.
Only one character can be assigned to this task. The Hints Book suggests you send a warrior in. Since there are only undead in this dungeon I suggest a priest. Whoever you send in should have the capability (spell or potion) to haste and to heal. Blessing/strength-potion and and Repel Spirit are very useful and an energy potion would not come amiss.
After entering the portal the only way is west and north to the central chamber. From thence you can only go east. Along the corridor is a trap (Difficulty 3) which you can avoid by going through the door to the south and fighting two ghouls. In both cases the way leads north. There are three ghouls on the ledges to the west which you can kill with Repel Spirit or wait until you come around to them and pummel them to death. Following the path around you come to a wheel which opens the gate immediately south and the nothern gate of the central chamber.
To the north of the central chamber is a room with five runes in the middle and three windows to the north. Step on each of the two runes nearest the windows once. This opens the three gates behind the windows. Around the corner is a ghoul and to the north four skeletons guarding a wheel which opens the gate to the west.
In the first chamber to the west are two doors in the north. If you go near the west wall you get a hint that there is a secret door leading westwards then north to two chambers with wheels and a door in the east to the throne room.
Alternatively you can go through the double door to the north, then through two further doors (this time locked) and fight six skeletons which arise out of their sarcophagi. There is a bit of loot in these tombs (healing potion and a scroll: call beast). The doors to the north lead to another crypt this time with four sarcophagi. Six zombies appear as soon as you get well into the room. There is no loot in these tombs, so on to the throne room in the north.
Either way it is worth fighting the two spirits and the wight in the throne room because they drop a Gold Ring and a Silver Necklace. To the east is a small room with two crystal boxes containing a Crystal Charm, a Ring of Agony and a Mind Crystal: Beastcall.
Whichever way you get there, both wheels must be turned to unlock the gate to the south.
Round the corner on the way to the SW of Dahris-Bok's Tomb are three traps of diffuculty 3. So your character needs a bit of skill with traps or lots of luck. You can however avoid the traps by going through a secret door directly in front of you (i.e. in the west wall of the passage). There are two ways now to get to Dahris-Bok: either west the south or south then west. Both ways lead to a room with a raised platform to the west. On approaching the platform the shade of Dahris-Bok coalesces before you and demands you to honour it. You should then kneel before him and he will be satisfied.
If you are strong enough you could loot the treasure chamber hidden to the north of the inner sanctum. In there is a crystal box containig a fine waveblade, an Archers Ring, a bar of lead, a bar of iron and 2 ambers. If you take this treasure the protectors (a Hraith and 3 Vahnavois) turn up as soon as you leave the treasure chamber.
Whether he robs the treasure or not your hero can now go east to the portal and rejoin the rest of the party so that you can continue your journey along the Dark Waters.
