Fort Draco |
Fort Draco is the centre of mining in the north with the best ore in Avernum. The town can be approached from the east or south by land and from the west by water. It is not possible to enter it from the north and you cannot get onto the land tongue north of the moat which surrounds the town. Although you can use the docks on the west, the entrances from the river to the moat are blocked by rocks.

Boutell is the best smith and owns the biggest anvil in the whole of Avernum. He makes fine weapons and armour which he will sell at a price. He will also offer a reasonable price for your loot and can repair any weapon including the Demonslayer, once you have recovered the parts. When you finally get him to repair it you get not only the Demonslayer but also 50xp and one reputation. | expensive |

It is always a good idea to talk to everybody. The following notes give hints on hidden rooms, traps and puzzles.
On the Walkway outside the fort is a spirit in the SE corner. It is guarding a corpse which has a suit of Fine Leather Armour.
There is an inn run by Doc. Rooms here are cheap (5 coins).
Greymould and the recipe for Greymould Salve are diffucult to find. Zathnia and Phyllea do not make it easier. You actually do not need to ask them. When exploring the caves to the west over the river you will certainly come across the hut by the Remote Lake. So why all the fuss?
In the east is a locked storeroom with lots of chests containing various metal bars. To the south of it is a secret room with two traps. The barrels contain a lot of ore. Most of the ore and bars can be taken without trouble. A few are however marked as "not yours". Since the guards stay outside, you can close the doors and steal to your heart's content.
In the Aranea Cave you can pick up some Spider Queen Fangs. If you give them to Phyllea, she will reward you with 30xp and 1 reputation She will also let you have some Shadow Leather (1-4 + 3 damage, nothing special) but it is good for your mages who cannot cast spells with heavy armour.
