General Hints

This is a large and complex dungeon on three levels. The main gate is well guarded but there is also a backdoor guarded only by two groups of Nephilim.

Notes

I usually start by heading west into the kitchen and dining hall where there are quite a few Nephilim. Then NW to the cellar, where the drake Darkhaz lives. If you did not pick up a Bronze Key in the Goblin Fort you can find one in the SW of the cellar. After clearing out the lower level you can concentrate on the ground floor before going upstairs to the first floor where mayor Evelyn's necklace is.

Under the Nephilim Fort

Darkhaz is relatively easy for a drake. Unfortunately he does not have any treasure. To the south of his lair is a locked door for which you need Unlock Doors L2 or lockpicks and good tool use. Behind this door is a chamber with four pillars. To the south is a door to a treasure chamber. As soon as you open the door the walls to the east and west disappear to reveal six ghasts. When you have defeated the ghasts you can loot the treasure room which contains four trapped chests (Steel Chain Mail, 100 coins, Ring of Skill, Healing Elixir). To the west of the chamber with the four pillars is a locked door which conceals a pedestal with a Bronze Key on it.

To the south are some spiders who have no treasure. Be careful not to get webbed. To remove webs, walk upto them in town mode and look at the web. If you do get webbed, you are much less effective in combat. To unweb yourself just click on the Wait Button.

To the east is a door with a pen of giant lizards to the south. If you kill the lizards you can find a body in a cave to the SE with a few coins and a Steel Buckler.

The door to the north of the lizard pen leads into a Nephilim barracks – nothing special here. Further north is the torture chamber and some prison cells. In the northern one is Kneedler. He does not seem to be particularly keen on getting away from the fort but can tell you that the necklace was locked up by the priests who threw the key away. This is the bronze key which you should already have. The priests (and hence the necklace) are on the upper level. He also tells you that Anastasia, who also lives on the upper level, is a rather nasty piece of work. He nevertheless seems to have a soft spot for her. He does however ask you to tell him if you kill her so that he can finally feel free to leave the fort.

To the east of the barracks is a staircase up to the ground floor which is dealt with later.

In the NE of the cellar is a secret passage which leads to a cave with cave rats but no treasure. In the north, slightly SE of the NW entrance is a secret passage which leads to a ghoul and two spiders which are guarding a locked portcullis, whch cannot be opened from this side.

Ground Floor

When you enter the fort from the back there is a kitchen with adjoining dining room to your right (west). Although there are lots of Nephilim there (hasting and going into combat mode before opening the door is a good idea), they are not very difficult. To the east of the entrance is a temple with a few warriors and a priest. To the north of the temple is a room with a Nephil shaman. He drops a Steel Small Shield. There is nothing particular in the chest. In the secret robing room to the north of this room are some potion ingredients. East of the temple is a hallway with two staircases, one leading down to the barracks in the cellar and the other leading up to the first floor. To the north is a dormatory with lots of inhabitants.

To the south are three rooms: NE is locked (Zofoor), SE a Nephil warrior and SW a dormatory with three warriors and some good loot including several Steel Small Shields and a Steel Longsword. Further west is a training room with a few Nephilim which leads to the main gates. After you have killed all the warriors that are there or storm in to kill you, you can loot the area. In the locked storeroom NW of the training area is a spider.

To the east of the dining room right in the middle of the ground floor is the trophy room with a Cursed Bronze Helmet. East is a corridor leading to the staircases with a door in the north which leads to an ogre who has a decent bit of treasure (coins, amber and Iron Longsword). To the south is a locked storeroom with a few items including lockpicks.

Zofoor

Zofoor is an ogre mage. He is fairly tough but does have a bit of treasure including an Iron Greatsword. There is a hidden door in the SE corner leading to a trapped chest containing some goodies.

Upper Level

There are two staircases to the upper level, one on the middle of the ground floor just west of the temple which leads into the gambling hall, the other in the northeast leads to a corridor east of the gambling hall. So there is not a lot of difference between them. To the SW of the gambling hall is a storeroom with little of value except a ceremonial dagger.

Around the NE are a few rooms with some Nephilim and some treasure, but nothing spectacular, except for a hidden room. In the second room south of the northeastern staircase is a hidden door beside the bookcase on the northern wall. There is a magic barrier which you can walk through at some damage to reach a chest (First Aid Kit, 50 coins, Fine Leather Armour, Scroll - Far Sight) and a bookcase (Healing L3).

The "Hall of Honoured Dead – Active and Inactive" in the west has 5 zombies and 8 sarcophagi, one of which contains a Mind Crystal (Lay on Hands). To the north is an E-W corridor leading to a potionmaster who has 2 Energy and a few other potions as well as some herbs. To the west is a room with two bookcases. In the western one is a Control Foes scroll. The eastern one has several unsual scrolls which will desease you if you read them.

In the middle to the south is a mess where the Nephil chief watches over his troops. Here is a brazier which is used to heat up oil to be poured down onto intruders at the front gate. When you have destroyed it you can come in through the main gate. There is also a fair bit of loot around.

Temple Complex

To the south of the corridor with two obelisks west of the gambling hall is a door with a bronze lock into which your bronze key fits. This leads to the Temple with four zombies and three Nephilim. Once you have killed them you can approach the altar. If you destroy it two demons appear to the east and west (near the doors). Before approaching the altar, it is a good idea to go into combat mode, hasten and bless everybody, position your two warriors near the doors and then let one of your spell casters destroy the altar. This way you have a good chance of beating the demons before they can do too much damage or call up so many monsters that you are overwhelmed.

After you have killed the demons you can pick up the dropped items. To the SW is a locked robing room with a ceremonial dagger and a blessed cloak. To the NW is a room with a spirit but no treasure. To the NE is an alchemy store with a few useful ingredients.

The door to the SE is the important one. The floor is trapped and you take a certain amount of damage crossing it. To the north of the room is a pedastal on which rests the Necklace! Once you have taken it (and got out of the room without being zapped to death by the floor) you have completed the quest for Evelyn. But before going off to collect your reward it is a good idea to pay a visit on Anastasia:

Anastasia

She is east of the room with the brazier in the south. If you Hast and enter combat mode before opening the door she should not be too difficult. Her quarters are hidden to the north. The first room contains nothing. The room further north has a trapped chest with an amber and 60 coins. The dresser has a few coins and a lot of information, which is no longer interesting.

Further north is a secret room with a tome which teaches you Bolt of Fire L3. A staircase leads down to the locked portcullis in the cellar.

Congratulations you have cleared this dungeon. So off to Evelyn in Formello to collect your reward. Now is the time to explore the environs of Formello, in particular Motrax and, if the first of a month is near, the Ancient Crypt. Then to the Tower of Magi and the Castle. But do not forget to go down to the prison cells and tell Kneedler that you have killed Anastasia. You get 5 xp and 1 reputation.
