The Royal Spire (Castle Hawthorne) |
This one is relatively straight forward: fight your way to Hawthorne, kill him and fight your way out.
When you get teleported into the Royal Spire go east. If you go west you will be overwelmed by Empire troops and die.
Keep to the corridor, which winds round in an anticlockwise spiral to Hawthorne's Throne Room. There is nothing worth taking in any of the side rooms. You could in any case have no use for anything at this stage in the game.
Cast Beast Ceremony and Haste and stay in combat mode for most of the time but save your "abilities" (like "Go Beserk") for the final showdown. The Royal Guards are tough but concentrate on the mages, who should always be eliminated first. There are lots of Royal Guards and three mages on the way (1st staircase in SW leading north, on a podium in the south of the dining hall and in a lobby to the east of the dining hall.
As you climb the last stairs before coming to the throne room you get a warning. This is a good point to save the game and prepare for a big fight. Here you can pull out all stops: Beast Ceremony, Go Beserk, Inner Might, Divine Warrior, Arcane Shield etc. Concentrate on the mages and priest, otherwise you could be overwelmed by summoned creatures. Hawthorne is not much tougher than the Royal Guards. As soon as he dies a portal appears in the NE corner. You will have difficulty using it unless you have killed off everybody in the room, so keep fighting.
When you eventually step into the portal you will be congratulated and transported back to Avernum.
