The Royal Seal needed on the way to Castle Hawthorne can be found here. Before you attempt to get it you must however have the Gold Key from the Castle, which Patrick told you about. There are lots of demons and other undead so Repel Spirit (L3 for demons) and the Demonslayer are very useful if not essential. This cave has a number of levels and it is rather difficult to leave if you are running low on spell points, so a few Energy Potions (or better Elixirs) are to be recommended. Since you also come across Mung Demons, which can confound, an unshackling crystal or two is also good.
As there are six different levels, naturally with stairs in opposite corners, I like to clear out the various monsters (mainly imps and demons) first. I can then explore the side rooms at my leasure.
On the first level in the NE corner is a secret passage with a chest containing three Fireblast Scrolls. There is also a Wheel near the NE corner directly north of the entrance, which makes some bridges appear across the lava rivers.
On the west wall on level 3 is a barrier, behind which is a lava pit with an Obsidian Spear lying on an altar. In the middle to the south on level 2 is a room with a curtain across the entrance, containing three wights and nothing else. On level 1 slightly west of the entrance in a room behind a barrier is an altar which restores spell points if you look at it.
After clearing all monsters out of the way, go to the lava pool on level 5 directly by the north wall. Jump down from the ledge and search the north wall for a secret door. The wheel can be turned if you have the Gold Key and opens an entrance to the Pillar Chamber in the NW corner on level 6.
Having turned the wheel you have to jump and climb down to level 2 and go the whole way around by the steps in the SW to level 3. (A secret passage is now accessible in the wall just at the top of the steps. The box contains a Mind Crystal – Inner Might.)
In the now accessible Pillar Room on level 6 you have no choice but to jump down to the centre. Before approaching the pillar in the middle, cast Beast Ceremony and enter combat mode. As soon as you take the seal steps appear, so that you can escape from the pit, but also five mung demons which keep draining and confounding you, so that they are rather difficult to kill.
