General Hints

There are three ways into this castle:

Which of the latter two you use is immaterial if you want to clear both caves out. If you just want to kill the cheaftain, the secret entrance is quicker.

Notes

I will describe this dungeon as if you come in from the Nephilim Cave.

The Western Caves

The entrance from the Nephilim Cave is in the northwest of the castle. There are many caves going south, all full of goblins. To the southeast of the entrance is a small temple with a nephil shaman and two nephalim but no special treasure. As the altar is not evil, Ritual Sanctification does nothing except drain health points. In the south wall of this temple is a secret door into a corridor leading to the the vestibule with the bookcase guarded by two Nephalim. West and south of the temple are further caves with lots of goblins. In the southernmost cave are some barrels and crates containing some food and a haste potion. In the west wall of this cave is the hidden door to the secret entrance from the south.

To the SE of this cave is another storage cave with a crate containing some healing herbs. North of this cave are some more crates and barrels, this time with a few better items including an Energy Potion.

The Gates and the Central Area

East of these caves are the main gates which are guarded by Nephalim which are a little stronger than goblins. They do not drop much treasure. North of the main gates is the Feasting Hall with some nephilim, goblins and an ogre.

To the southwest of the feasting hall is a storage room without much of interest other than a chest containing some coins. West of this is a vestibule where two Nephilim warriors are sitting. In the bookcase on the west wall is a scroll which teaches Move Mountains L1 (very useful at this stage in the game because you cannot learn it in Formello). In the north is a bedroom with a trapped chest containing some coins and an Amber. Northeast of the vestibule is a locked door leading to a small robing chamber with nothing more than two rather mouldy robes. In the north wall of the corridor leading west apparently to a dead end, is a secret door leading to the temple.

The Chieftain

The leader of the band is in a room to the east of the feasting hall. It can also be reached from the south but it is easier to go directly to the double doors in an alcove to the west of the hall. As there are also quite a few nepilim and goblins it is a good idea to enter combat mode and haste and even bless most of the party before entering the room. The chieftain drops some rather useful items.

The Southeastern Caves

East of the eastern guardroom at the main gates is a graveyard. If you go south into the tract with piles of skulls four Ghouls arise out of the rubble. They do not drop anything and are not guarding any treasure. To the east of the graveyard are some prison cells. In the sothern cell is Arum. If you have killed the chieftain and can unlock the door you can free him for 5 xp and 1 reputation. He also gives you the password for gate from the Nephilim Cave (in case you have not got it already) and tells you that the prisoner in the northen cell was called Graham but he died two days ago and that he had found a strange blue stone. If you search Graham's body you will find a Mind Crystal: Beastcall

North of the prison (and therefore directly south of the chieftains's room) is a smithy with few nephilim. To the south and west of the smithy, betwen it and the central area, is a lizard pen with two giant lizards.

The Sleeping Quarters

To the east of the Chieftains room are some sleeping quarters. In a room to the southeast are a nephil shaman and a warrior. In the south of the room is a tome. If you look at it you will be given the option to destroy it (5 xp) or read it, which does not seem to do anything except give you the feeling that it did something wonderful to you. Actually you loose 5 xp.

There is a little worth picking up in most of the other rooms in and around the sleeping quarters and in the storage rooms to the north and west of the feasting hall. The only other interesting room is in the northeast of the sleeping quarters. Here is another Nephilim Chieftain. He drops some useful equipment. To the north is a locked door leading to his bedroom which is guarded by a giant lizard. There is also not very much of interest here except a hidden door in the northwest corner which opens up onto a long passage.

The Treasure Room

The passage leading west along the north side of the castle has two simple traps. Around the corner at the end of the passage are two poison fungi guarding the locked door to the treasure room. In the treasure room are two untrapped chests to the east containing 50 and 100 coins. In the southwest corner is a chest protected by barriers which you can walk through at some damage. The chest contains Poor Chain Mail and Rogue's Leather (very useful for disarming traps, also better protection than fine leather armour and less encumbering).
