General Hints

You have received enough hints about where Grah-Hoths's seat is (e.g. Nizzrek or Astar). You need a key which you can either find outdoors at Q on the Worldmap or near the main entrance.

Reaching Grah-Hoth himself is rather complicated. You soon find out that, like Astar, not all of Grah-Hoth's servants are happy with their master and are therefore not always quite loyal to him. You need to talk to various creatures that will help you.

Notes

The first thing you need is a key, which you can get in two ways.

Finding the Key Outdoors

Before flying over the chasm to Grah-Hoth's Fortress you can expore the lava filled cave. Towards the SW corner of this cave is a secret passage leading west with a further secret passage leading south (see the Map of the Bad Lands).

The Totem Pit

After climbing the stairs in front of the fort you can go along the outside wall to a pit with a Haakai, two demons and several skeletal warriors. When you kill the Haakai he drops a Black Iron Key

Friendly Creatures

There is a gap in the walls at the western end of the outside wall. There you find a lot of imps who are working rather unwillingly on restoring the Castle. If you talk to them they tell you to speak to Tyoarik, who is hiding in the NW corner of the fortress. He tells you about a fragile wall in a storeroom to the east.

The Passages

Following his instructions you find the storeroom to the north and tear down the wall in the east. Then go along the passage along the north end of the map. You soon come to a ledge from which you must jump down. There is now no turning back! Hopefully you have enough potions – particularly Energy Potions or Elixirs.

Following the path east then south and finally turning the corner you are lead back northwards. On the way there are lots of various undead and a few cave slimes. When you come to a dead end search the north wall for a hidden door to another storeroom. In one of the barrels are some hammers, one of which you can take. With the help of the hammer you can tear down a wall back to the south.

Demonic Chambers

On tearing the wall down you find yourself in the demonic chambers. It is a good idea to cast Beast Ceremony beforehand, so that you are ready to attack the demons. There are lots of demons around. These chambers are their sleeping quarters and their nests often have useful treasures. In the SE chamber for instance is a Mind Crystal Lay on Hands. In the SW is a Cursed Javelin, in the centre W a Ring of Blured Vision and in others various rings charms and gemstones.

If you just want to do Grah-Hoth in, you can leave most of the demons and their minor treasures and go directly west through the central tract to come at last into the central hall, where everything is suspiciously quiet.

Grah-Hoth

But not for long. As you proceed up the corridor north of the hall you reach a point near the end where the walls disappear and you face the nasty lord of this tower. If you judge the point right you can cast Beast Ceremony just before. For this fight you can pull out all the stops: Go Beserk, Arcane Shield, Invulnerability Potions and Elixirs etc. Concentrate on Grah-Hoth himself (he is on the dias and looks like any other demon), because, once you have killed him, the other creatures disappear.

Grah-Hoth's Treasure

Now you have killed the demon lord you can loot his treasury. Before doing so you can pick up the things he drops – a Blessed Cloak, a Blessed Greatsword, a pair of Gauntlets of Might, a Basic Charm, and Blessed Plate Mail.

The treasure chamber is to the east and is guarded by two golems. There are a few goodies here including a knowledge brew and Polished Plate Mail. If you try to open the chests in the middle of the room you get killed!

Now to get out. Since the entrance to Grah-Hoth's chamber has disappeared you must jump off the ledge in his treasure chamber. You can tell all the imps that you have killed the demon lord. They all seem pleased but do not give you anything. King Micah does however reward you.
