Graham Parker

Acid Bubblegum-- Another fine album from perhaps one of the most prolific and unfairly neglected songwriter of our time. Why is he not worshipped as a G-d? Well, in his words: "I don't appeal to the masses/and they don't appeal to me." This latest offering takes on Joe Camel, society's bean counters and even the revered Queen of Soul herself: "But now when you hear Aretha singing on some advertisement...she's still got the lungs...you might even say the girl's still got soul, but not that much..." The temptation to quote and quote is compelling, but the desire to convince you to buy it for yourself is even greater. I'm tired of seeing his stuff in cut-out bins.
