From: geigel@soleil.UUCP (jogle) Subject: Top Albums of 1988 -- The Results (LONG) Message-ID: <569@soleil.UUCP> Date: 16 Jan 89 16:25:53 GMT Organization: somewhere over the rainbow Okay people...The results are in!! Before I present the list, let me go into a bit of trivial information. First of all, thanks to all who voted. I received votes from a total of 51 people (via E-mail and postings on r.m.m). Most people actually did find 10 LP of merit for this year. Some listed less, a few even listed more. And to those who gave comments with your lists, I found these most interesting indeed. A word on the scoring. Since many people mentioned that it was somewhat difficult to place the albums in any sort of order, I wanted the fact that an LP showed up on someone's list to be more important than the position in the list. I finanly decided on the following scoring scheme. I gave an LP 10 points for just appearing on a list (Within the Top 10). In addition, I gave 10 points for appearing in the #1 spot on a list, 9 points for #2, etc. In this way, an album showing up on two lists as #10 scored higher than an album showing up as #1 on only 1 list. For people who listed more than 10 albums, I only gave scores for the top 10. I did however, keep track that an album was listed as "honorable mentioned" in order to break ties. When it was specified that a list was given in no particular order, I simply gave all of the LPs on the list 15 points (10 for showing up on a list and 5 for position within the list (closest thing to an average score)). And finally, the Top albums of 1988 as voted by YOU, rec.music.misc. I only listed LPs that were voted for more than once (even as "honorable mentioned"). An * after the points indicates a tie broken by an "honorable mentioned" vote. Pos Artist Album Points --- ------------------------- ---------------------------------- ------ 53.
